If there's one treatment I really love it's microneedling.
It can sound a little scary when you first hear about it, tiny needles going into your skin doesn't exactly sound fun. When performed correctly microneedling can be a great way to encourage skin renewal.
So, what actually happens? Microneedling is performed with a device that uses very fine needles to create tiny, controlled micro channels in the skin. This stimulates the skins natural healing response and tricks the skin producing more collagen and elastin.
As we age our natural collagen production slows down which in turn contributes to fine lines, loss of volume and changes in skin texture. I particularly love this treatment as it actually encourages the skin to do some of the work itself.
Does it hurt? - Is one of the most frequently asked questions I get.
There is definitely some sensation during treatment, a numbing cream can be used beforehand to make the treatment more comfortable. You may look quite pink following treatment (almost like a mild sunburn) this generally settles quickly as the skin recovers.
This is not a quick fix treatment, your skin needs time to work through its natural healing and collagen building process. Results develop gradually which I actually love because it's about working with your skin rather than trying to alter It overnight.
Post treatment your skin is more sensitive so keeping a simple aftercare routine is important. Gentle cleanser, hydration and sunscreen. Wait before introducing products with active ingredients until your skin has had time to breathe and recover.
Microneedling isn't suitable for everyone, professional consultation is important. Having your skin properly assessed prior to any treatment is a must.
